Another really common question that I think we hear all the time, especially among younger women, is, if I have kids someday, what will happen to my breast implants?

Dr. Levens (00:16):
That's a very important question, and I have women that say, well, I don't want to breastfeed because I don't want them to get silicone in their mouths or something, or could it get infected or could it fail, or issues like that. So the truth is that you are, one is completely encouraged and able to breastfeed having had breast implants. If there's a breast lift surgery or reduction surgery, the breast implant surgery is typically very far back behind the breast tissue, usually behind the muscle. So as far as interference with breast feeding, it's minimal and to none. Breast lift or breast reduction is another story because you may be going across the breast glands, et cetera. But I do encourage it, cuz I think it's the healthier thing to do for moms, for babies. But of course what happens is also with weight gain, time, menopause, et cetera, there can be stretching of the tissues, and so it might accelerate the need to have a replacement. That would be another reason rather than waiting 10, 15 years, or if god forbid there's some kind of a breast implant associated illness that a woman after two kids or before kids has a couple pregnancies, nurses, and then 10 years later says, we need to do something because they're sagging a little bit, which could happen even without the breast implants.
